ABOUT THE BOOK

The only person you cannot outrun is yourself…

When Samuel kills his twin brother Danny, he is convinced he has done the right thing by eliminating his lifelong scourge. To his dismay, he finds that his torments have only taken a different form, a more hideous one. The police are on his trail but evading them is easy. Hiding from his conscience is the hard part.

Danny had gained fame and wealth as a smart lawyer in the murky worlds of business and politics. His primary client had been businessman Vishwajit, who is now eyeing a move up the food chain, thus locking horns with the wily Haider. Looking for ways to assuage his guilt, Samuel is drawn into the world Danny left behind, pitting him against an ambitious Vishwajit. And placing him square in the middle of dangerous game of one-upmanship between the two ambitious men.

Is Samuel’s change of heart enduring enough to overcome the myriad challenges? Or will his basic self-preservation instinct kick in at the first sight of blood? And will his past catch up with him?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John Louis was the eldest of four siblings born into a middle-class Malayalee family that had moved to Visakhapatnam in the 1960s. While life in those days was not a bed of roses, he had the good fortune of being schooled in one of the best institution in the region – St. Aloysius High School, which celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2022.  The school had a well-stocked library of fiction and John was one of its most regular visitors. Thus started his love affair with books, so much so that he would be reading a “Enid Blyton” or a “Hardy Boys” book hidden under his text book as the teachers went about their jobs. John also developed a flair for words from those early days, and was part of the school magazine committee.

He went on to complete his education with a degree in mechanical engineering, and at the age of 21 started his career in the late 1980s with one of the top business houses. His role was to execute industrial projects, and this took him to all parts of the country, and abroad. All through the 1990s and early 2000s, he spent time in places as varied as the hinterlands of Bihar and Orissa, and the exotic Andamans. He especially loved this part of his job, because it gave him an opportunity to explore the different cultures and observe a wider cross-section of people. He always felt that he should leverage these experiences to extend his passion for reading to its natural end – write something of his own.

But he never got around to writing until he changed jobs and moved to Oman. Here he travelled less, and had more time to develop his passion for writing. He wrote his first book –“Final Conquest” and learnt a lot from that experience. It also convinced him that he could make a mark for himself in the world of writing. Juggling his responsibilities at work and family, he produced the manuscript of his second book – “Killer’s Burden”.

When John is not writing, he spends his free time playing chess, and of course reading. He still travels, but only when he wants to. With his family he has spent his holidays in quite a few countries around the world. For the past twelve years he has been based in Oman, where his two daughters finished their schooling. The girls are now working in India, and he and his wife have recently shifted base to India, from where he plans to take up writing as his fulltime career.
