ABOUT THE BOOK
MY INDIA, MY STORY is the memoir of a passionate Indian who firmly believes – the concept of Life is very subjective and one must live according to one’s own perceptions and beliefs. She defines the journey of her life as a gratifying march ‘from Janmbhumi to Karmbhumi’. It symbolises her life in Delhi as a child to her life thereafter in Guwahati, where she resides and works at present.
In her book, Kalpana evaluates our rich culture, traditions and heritage, and takes us through her childhood rooted in understanding these concepts and forming values of her own. She shares thought-provoking stories of her struggles, in an attempt to guide the present generation and show them the path to a happy and successful life.
Some of her stories are intended for students and their parents. It opens a new approach to education and career as Kalpana gives motivational inputs as a teacher and mentor on how to embrace life gracefully.
There are relevant discussions on the role of science in Ancient Bharat, Reservation policy in India, COVID-19, NEP 2020 and the growing need for Community Service in our country. All along the way, Kalpana holds on to rationale and sincerity in her approach to life.
A Scientist and currently a Professor of Physics at Gauhati University, Dr Kalpana Bora spends her time preparing students with valuable life lessons and acts as a support system for parents as well as the community.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The author, Dr. Kalpana Bora, a Hindu by birth, and a Scientist is a Professor of Physics at Gauhati University, Assam, India. Born to parents Sh. Hind Kumar Vats (father) and Late Smt. Kamala Devi (mother) in Delhi, India in the year 1969, she acquired her education in schools (Sudama Nagar, Padam Nagar, and Shakti Nagar schools) and college (Hansraj College) Delhi University. After her Masters in Physics from Delhi University, she got admitted into the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, in 1991 for a regular PhD program in Physics, but then shifted to Guwahati, Assam, after getting married to Dr. Madhurjya P. Bora. She qualified NET/JRF (CSIR) in the year 1992 during her M.Sc. and also has been a CSIR Research Associate. She continued her PhD in Theoretical High Energy Physics and got PhD degree from Gauhati University in the year 2000. She got a permanent job as a Lecturer in Physics in 2003 (Govt. of Assam), worked at Cotton College, Guwahati, during 2004-2006, and has been a permanent Faculty member of Gauhati University since 2006. She visited MIT, USA, in the year 1997 (Visiting Scientist) and also has been a visiting scientist at the ICTP (International Center for Theoretical Physics), Trieste, Italy in the year 2014. She also visited Fermi Lab USA (2016) to deliver a talk and has attended several conferences/workshops (Invited Lectures, paper presentations etc). She is blessed with three children. She has written many research papers in Physics, in SCOPUS indexed International Journals. Three students got PhD degrees under her supervision in Physics, and three more are working at present. She is a very firm believer and follower of Indian Culture, her rich Knowledge Heritage and Values. And a very proud Indian!
